Unplugging

Well we had another busy weekend with a cookout on Friday night with Josh's FCA Board, a family reunion on Saturday, and a church picnic this morning.  Believe it or not, I didn't take any pictures:(  Sorry!
We are heading out of town tonight for two weeks to visit Josh's family in PA.  I am taking my camera and my computer, but I am not promising any posts while we are out there.  Josh's parents don't have internet at their house.  Josh and I usually go into the church or to McDonalds at least once while we are there to check our emails, facebook, (fantasy football for Josh), etc.  SOOOO, I may do one or two posts.
Rudy is excited to meet his cousin Colt, Aunt Kristi, and Uncle Josh... and of course to see his Grandma and Grandpa H.   The boys are both getting dedicated next Sunday while we are out there.  There are lots of other festivities planned as well and we are all really jazzed to get out there.  Hasta La Vista... (Is that how you say it/spell it?  I didn't take spanish... or whatever language that is.)  Much love to all my readers and besties!

A Grocery Store, a Stuffed Animal, and Some Two Month Shots

Yesterday the grocery store in town opened back up.  It's been closed for a little more than a year.  A local guy recently bought it and opened it up as an IGA.  You can get all of the details in this newspaper article featuring yours truly.  HA!  The article makes me sound a little bit stupid, but I promise that is not a direct quote.  It also makes us sound a little bit silly like we were standing at the doors waiting for them to open.  We thought the store was going to be opening that morning, so we decided to go for a little walk with the Dude to get some stuff for lunch.  When we walked up the newspaper guy approached us, told us they weren't open, and started asking us a ton of questions.  It opened like five minutes later.  Anyways... here's what we ended up buying...

Not too bad for a Wednesday lunch!f
Last night was an absolutely beautiful night.  It was the first time in a long time that it hadn't been sweltering hot outside.  So, Josh and I decided to take a little walk up to McDonalds for some ice cream.  When we got outside we realized that it was actually pretty chilly, so I put a little hat on Rudy that we got at one of our showers.  It was made to look like a puppy dog.  Here's a picture of him in it.....
He slept the whole time!

I got so tickled because from this side it looked like I was carrying a little stuffed animal in the Bjorn.

Yesterday Rudy turned eight weeks old, so today he had his two month well-baby visit.  He is doing fabulous and the Nurse Practitioner said he was a really strong boy.  He weighed in at 10lbs 10oz and was 21 and 3/4 inches long.  He had to get his first slew of vaccines today with two shots in his left leg, one in his right, and one that he had to swallow.  He did really well, but has been a little bit cranky and very sleepy this afternoon.  I think his little thighs are hurting him.  Look at all those bandaids:(

Happy Boy

Rudy is a very happy boy in the mornings.  He hands out smiles left and right and coos and coos and coos.  I wish he was this happy all day, everyday.  Check it out for yourself!

Berger Bike Ride

Last night my mom came over to watch Rudy for a little bit so Josh and I could go for a bike ride!  It was the first time we had done anything just the two of us since June.  The past two summers Josh and I would ride our bikes every night, so it's something we've really missed.   It was a short bike ride because Josh had to get back for his Fantasy Football draft (insert eye roll), but we had alot of fun.  We only heard, "Where's the baby?" three times during the ride.  Haha. The joys of a small town.
Here is a pic of Josh riding his with his sweet homemade basket on the back.  Josh and I have matching cruisers.  We can't wait until Rudy is old enough to ride in a trailer on the back.  We talked about getting two.  One for Rudy and one for Murphy.
Here is Josh talking on his phone while he rides.  You better believe that I gave him all kinds of heck for making a call during the sole forty five minutes of alone time we've had in the past two months.  This call didn't last long.  (See, honey, I told you I was going to post about it on the blog, haha!)

Anyways.. Our time was short, but it was really refreshing to be able to get out of the house with my hub for a little while.  Thanks mom!

Weekend Review.

This weekend was fairly eventful.  On Friday we went to Champaign to run some errands (and go to Sonic, my current obsession.  I'd do just about anything for a slushie.)  Then we went to the Soap game at the high school.  The Soap game is the pre-season intersquad scrimmage.  Back in the old days they charged a bar of soap for an entrance fee so that the boys would be able to have soap to take showers for the entire season.  (Hence, the name "Soap game.") It was a perfect night, temperature-wise.  Rudy was a really good boy and slept in the Bjorn for most of the game.  My mom got a cute pic of us as a family, and I've asked her to send it to me so that I can put it on here.... but she hasn't.  Fathom that.   Rudy rocked this cute little onesie this weekend.... Thanks EZ!
It says.. (front) My daddy beat your daddy on the intramural field....  (back) Pick one... Then there are a bunch of pictures of different sport's balls.  Josh loves it.  The pic isn't too good because I was holding the camera up over my head.

(Bubar... I read your comment...yours will be posted soon... I just can't take Rudy out of the house in that!... Your's too Burge and Rach)
Saturday morning I had every intent to make it to the farmer's market.  But Rudy slept until 10 and it closes at noon.  So we hung around in the AM and then headed to Champaign in the afternoon.  We met up with Tom and Becca, went to Chili's, Best Buy, and Target, and then headed back to Becca's apartment so Josh could take some engagement pictures for them.  They aren't edited yet, but here is one of my favorites...

We tried to rent a movie afterwards.. but Rudy wasn't having it, so we headed home.

Sunday was a typical Sunday with church in the AM, an afternoon nap, and youth in the PM.

I also got a new computer this weekend! Mine got a really bad virus on Saturday and I was pretty much fed up with it.  I seem to get a virus on my computer every other month; it's like my computer has AIDS.  So, I went and bought the cheapest one from Best Buy (after doing a little research, of course.)  It's a Toshiba, and I actually really like it so far!

I think we are all caught up now!  Hope you guys all had a fabulous weekend!

Addresses Please

If you are a subscriber to this blog I need your address.  Josh and I wrote 125 thank you cards yesterday and I need to send them out before Rudy's first birthday.  You can either leave it for me in the comments section or email it to me.  Do it... Or I will come after you!

New Toy!

Well, I finally broke down and bought a jogging stroller.  I wasn't planning on getting one until next spring because you are supposed to wait until babies are six months old to use them.  (Because they don't have good head control until then.)  However, I've been walking for the past two weeks and the stroller from our travel system just isn't doing the job.  I really like that stroller, but it has plastic wheels instead of rubber so it makes for a really bumpy ride for the dude.  Also, the tread is already completely worn off from the twenty miles I have put on it.  I will still keep it in the car and use it for things like shopping and gong to the Dr.  But I really needed something more for exercise-type walking.  I did some research and decided to get this stroller....
It's the Schwinn Turismo.  It's a pretty good middle-of-the-line jogging stroller.  I really wanted a BOB, because they are the cream of the crop, but I couldn't justify spending 400 bucks on a stroller.  This stroller has a swivel front wheel that locks into place for running (I wasn't sure if I wanted this feature or not, but am really glad that I decided to get it.)  It also has thicker tires so it can go over any terrain.  The really nice thing about it is that I can put the carseat into the stroller so I can go ahead and use it for walking now.  Most jogging strollers require you to buy a special car seat adapter (for an extra fifty bucks).  Plus, I got a steal of a deal on it.  I found some online promo codes and free shipping so I got it for about forty dollars less than the original price!  I ordered it two days ago and my favorite Fed Ex guy delivered it today.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to see him because I was changing Rudy's diaper in the nursery.  We have ordered a few things online over the past few months and he is the guy that has delivered all of them.  He is honestly the happiest delivery guy I have ever met.  Anyhow, I got the stroller put together, but not in time to beat the heat for today.  We are planning on taking a stroll tonight after it cools off a bit.  Can't wait!

For Ken

His hands are covering the front a little bit.. But he just wasn't up for pictures.  Isn't my little Berger boy a cute little peanut?  Thanks for the sweet onesie Ken!

Busy Weekend

This past weekend was a busy one! My mom, Rudy, and I made a trip up to Chicago on Friday to help Becca find a wedding dress.  She found one at the first store we went to, so it was a successful trip!  It was Rudy's first day trip and he really liked it.  So much so that he decided he just couldn't sleep during any of it.  He got a little over stimulated and stayed awake from about 11:00 to 7:30.   He slept pretty good that night though!
Josh had a golf tournament on Saturday to go to, so it was just me and the little man all day.  He was extremely fussy all day and I thought I might go nuts.  Josh didn't get home until about 7:30.  Even though it technically wasn't a "busy" day.. it was a stressful one.
On Sunday we went to church and then to my mom's house for lunch.  After that we had our last "college group" of the summer before the college kids go back to school.  Each meeting one of them wins "the pants" and gets to boss everyone around at the next meeting.  The person that won the pants at this meeting got to keep them until Christmas.. so it was a pretty big deal.  We went out to one of the guys' family's houses.  They have a pond with a cabin by it, and the big event was a relay race.  The first leg was swimming. The second was a three legged race around the pond.  The third was a bags toss.  And the fourth was the completion of a one hundred piece puzzle.   The winning team then played clue against each other to determine the winner of the pants.  I went in the cabin to feed Rudy during the relay race and asked Josh to take pictures and he didn't do a very good job.
Rudy loved his time outside and was a really good boy all afternoon.  Doesn't he look so cute in his little muscle man onesie?
Josh and Logie.

Boys watching the relay race after the swimming leg.
Logan whooped Josh in the bags section.
Girls working on the puzzle.
And the little man passed out... after peeing all over his face.. haha.
After the college group we had the back to school youth retreat.  I only stayed for the first few hours because I had to get Rudy to bed.  But, we sent the outgoing seniors off and welcomed the incoming seventh graders to the youth group.  They stayed the night and had devos, set off coke bombs, and all kinds of other fun stuff.  This morning they went tubing down the river.  I wanted to go so bad, but couldn't make it work with the little man.  However, Rudy and I did enjoy a nice morning walk.  I'm sitting here now waiting for Josh to get back so I can get a shower and so he can take me to Sonic.  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!

6 Weeks

Rudy was six weeks old yesterday!  He is still suffering from a cold and has been rather cranky the past few days.  I had my six week postpartum visit today and am cleared to resume all normal activity.... This means I can exercise again! I pretty much haven't exercised since I got pregnant, so I have a feeling I am in for a huge wake up call.  I still have 10 to 15 pounds to lose, so I got Jillian Michael's 30 day shred.  It's only 20 minutes a day, but  heard that it is hard work.  I figured that would be a good way to ease into exercising again... Have any of you guys done it??  How was it??
My appointment was quite the experience.  When I was in the hospital they just scheduled the appointment for me without asking if there was a particular day that was good for me.  Well, they scheduled it on the day of Josh's FCA Golf Tournament fundraiser.  So, Rudy and I took the trek alone, and Rudy was quite the pill.  He cried the entire way to Champaign.  As soon as we got to Champaign I fed him at my sister's apartment (that is where I park to go to my appts because her apt is only a block away).  He was happy for about 2 minutes and then started screaming again.  He screamed through the ENTIRE dr's appt.  I had to hold him the entire time.. which was interesting haha... As soon as the midwife left the room he had a diaper blowout and fell asleep.  I am so glad that I'm not a single mom because I'm pretty sure I would go insane! Thank goodness we have a really good daddy:)

I'll post some new Dude pics soon.  I haven't put any on my computer for awhile.  He is smiling alot, but is very camera shy.  I have yet to catch one on film:)

Feeling Junky

Well Rudy caught his first cold.  Two nights ago he started sounding stuffy and rattley.  I had just read something about SIDS and when babies sleep soundly enough they can't wake themselves up even to breathe...I don't think I slept but 30 minutes the entire night.  I spent most of the night staring at Rudy to make sure that he was still breathing.  Josh said that everytime he woke up I was standing over the top of Rudy, haha.  I guess I'm a little more high strung than I thought.
So yesterday we went and bought a humidifier. We also had him sleep in his bouncer so that he wasn't flat on his back to avoid all of that stuff pooling in the back of his throat.  He has been fairly fussy, but he slept so well last night. (and I did too!)  So we are just laying low for most of the week and are, hopefully, on the road to recovery:)

I would also like to add that it is very refreshing to have finally found someone who appreciates my singing voice.  Rudy is a sucker for any kind of music and loves for me to sing to him.

Yana's Baby Shower

Yesterday Rudy and I went to my friend Yana's baby shower.  Yana went to nursing school with me and we were in the same rotation for clinicals.  She is the same age and in a similar stage in life as me, so we got pretty close.  We were also only eight weeks apart in our pregnancies, so it was fun going through that together. Yana came to visit us at the hospital, but she didn't get to see Rudy because he was still in the NICU. So, she was really excited to meet him yesterday.  He was a pretty big hit at the shower.  I am so excited to meet her little guy, not much longer now!

Big News!

BECCA and TOM are ENGAGED!!

Two words: FREAKING FINALLY ( I wish I would have thought of them originally. )

On a more serious note.  We are so excited to add Tom to our family.  He is patient, kind, and funny and compliments Becca perfectly. (Not to mention he always cooks for us.)  Josh is also excited because "Tom really likes sports"... and that is a direct quote.

Who ever would have thought this day would come?  Just kidding.... Love you guys! Congrats!

Thank You Grandpa.... and Paula Deen

My Grandpa is a bit of a gatherer.  He is always out in his garden or picking some kind of fruit, and when he picks, he picks enough for the whole town.  The pick of the week was peaches! I LOVE fresh peaches.  Grandpa picked three bushels of peaches a few days ago, so I got some of the harvest.  One of my favorite things to eat in the summertime is cobbler.  I found this recipe online and thought I would give it a shot last night.  It was super easy to make (except for peeling all of the peaches) and was pretty tasty.  It was a little cakey, and I prefer a crunchier cobbler.... but Josh liked it.  (Let's be honest, though.  There isn't much that Josh doesn't like.) Love you, honey!
Took forever to peel and cut all of those peaches.
Getting ready to bake.

Finished project!
Ready to dive in!

Splish Splash I Was Takin' a Bath

The Dude is starting to like his bath alot more. Cleeeeeeearly. (Said in my best fam accent.)  In fact, he likes it so much that he pooped in it the other day.  That was a good time.
He is also starting to chunk up quite a bit.  He was sick of everyone telling him that his legs were skinny so he decided to do something about it.
Every day he becomes more and more alert and is starting to smile and coo.

I forgot to mention that we had a visitor last week!  Rudy's Uncle Ryan Jibbers Johnson came to visit and brought him a pair of J's.
Josh couldn't be happier.  We had a really good time while Ryan was visiting.  He made me some birthday cookies and Josh and him fixed me a birthday dinner since my birthday was less than desirable this year.  The visit was pretty low key and we had a good time just hanging out around the house.  Thanks for coming to visit and please move back to the midwest soon:)
