Great Grandma Smith

Today my Great Grandma Smith died.  She would have been 103 next month.  She lived a long, full life and was more than ready to go be with the Lord.

She lived next door to my Grandma and Grandpa Woodard and when we would go visit them we would often pop over to say hi.  I have many fond memories from my childhood and some very sweet memories from recent times of her.

Her living room has been set up the same way since I was a little girl.  Same couch, same coffee table, same chairs, and same glass cabinet in the corner.  I remember when I was little I would go and gawk at all of her pretty glass dolls in that cabinet.  I wanted them so bad, all of them.

She would always tell the best stories when we would go visit.  After my baby shower for Rudy I went over to thank her for the blanket that she crocheted for Rudy and she told me stories of when she had her children.  Some of them in the hospital, some of them at home.  Even at 102 years old she had the sharpest mind.  In my most recent visit with her she shared how important her family was to her.  She didn't have to tell me, though, because it was very evident through her life.

A month or two ago I shared my five generations picture that I got with her, my Grandma, my Dad, myself, and Rudy.  I am so glad that I got that picture and will cherish it always, but even more I will cherish all of the memories I have of her.  I am so thankful for the way she influenced, shaped, and loved our family.

Today I am thankful for her life and celebrate her homecoming.
